Here's some information to guide you to the right care at the right time.

Your care team

Your network, your plan medical group (PMG) and your primary care physician (PCP) make up your care team. Knowing who’s part of your team is an important first step to understanding how your health plan works.

Your primary care physician

Your PCP is who you will see if you need a checkup or routine care, want advice about a health problem, or get sick or hurt. They provide care as soon as you need it, listen carefully, and explain things in a way that is easy to understand. Call your PCP first for all of your health care needs.

Video and phone visits

If you have a medical concern or need a follow-up appointment — and you’d like to save a trip to the doctor’s office — a video or phone visit might be the ideal option. Plus, you’ll be able to have your appointment from wherever is most convenient for you.

House calls for Sharp Community Medical Group members

Instead of going to the doctor, what if the doctor came to you? In early 2020, comprehensive care will be available in the comfort of your own home.

House calls will be available for Sharp Community Medical Group (SCMG) members for the same copay as a primary care office visit — 365 days a year, including weekends and holidays, from 8 am to 8 pm.

Specialist care

In most cases, when you need specialty care, your PCP will refer you to a specialist in your PMG. You can access OBGYN care within your PMG without a referral from your PCP.

Urgent care

If you need medical attention right away and your life is not in danger, you can most likely be treated at an urgent care center within your PMG.2

Emergency room

If your life is in danger or you are at risk of being permanently disabled, it is an emergency. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room right away.

If your plan medical group is Sharp Rees-Stealy, you can check wait times before you hit the road.  Sharp Rees-Stealy urgent care centers are open daily from 8 am to 8 pm.

MinuteClinic

MinuteClinic® is the walk-in medical clinic located inside select CVS Pharmacy® stores. MinuteClinic provides convenient access to basic care without an appointment.

Talk to a nurse

Registered nurses are available through Sharp Nurse Connection® after hours and on weekends. Call 1-855-562-8853 from 5 pm – 8 am, Monday to Friday, and 24 hours a day on weekends.

During the COVID-19 outbreak, you may be directed to your primary care doctor. This is to ensure the quickest and best care possible when the nurse advice line is experiencing high call volumes.

Emergency travel services

When faced with a medical emergency while traveling 100 miles or more away from home or in another country, we connect you to doctors, hospitals, pharmacies and other services.

1 Select doctors offer this service.

2 You may need prior authorization from your primary care physician. You must use an urgent care facility within your plan medical group unless you are traveling outside San Diego or southern Riverside counties.

3 Your share of the cost for a MinuteClinic visit is equal to what you pay for a PCP office visit (deductible may apply). There is no copayment for flu vaccinations.
