When will my current Medicare Advantage coverage through Sharp Health Plan end?

Your current Individual Medicare Advantage coverage through Sharp Health Plan will remain active through Dec. 31, 2026.


Will I be automatically enrolled into another Medicare Advantage plan?

No. You will need to choose and enroll in a new Medicare Advantage plan for 2027. If you don’t enroll in a new Medicare Advantage plan, you will only be covered by Original Medicare.


What do I need to do next?

You should review and select a new Medicare Advantage plan for 2027. To help with this process:

Can I keep my Sharp doctors if I choose another Medicare Advantage plan?

Yes. If you would like to keep your Sharp doctors, please visit sharp.com/medicare to see what plans will be accepted by Sharp HealthCare in 2027. You may also contact your provider or medical group if you have questions about accepted plans for next year.


What will happen to my prescriptions, prior authorizations and ongoing care?

Coverage for prescriptions, prior authorizations and ongoing medical care will depend on the Medicare Advantage plan you choose for 2027. Before enrolling in a new plan, it’s a good idea to check with the new insurance provider to confirm:

  • Whether your prescriptions will be covered by their formulary,
  • Which pharmacies are in their network,
  • How prior authorizations will be handled,
  • Whether your doctors, specialists and hospitals are in their network.


Why is Sharp Health Plan exiting the Individual Medicare Advantage market?

Sharp Health Plan has decided to stop offering Individual Medicare Advantage plans due to changes in the Medicare market. We will continue to offer Medicare Advantage coverage through employer-sponsored group retiree plans, also known as Employer Group Waiver Plans (EGWP).

Sharp HealthCare providers will continue to accept Medicare Advantage plans from other insurance companies. Please visit sharp.com/medicare to see what plans they will accept for next year.


Will Sharp Health Plan offer any Medicare plans in 2027?

Yes. Sharp Health Plan will continue to offer Medicare Advantage coverage through employer-sponsored group retiree plans, also known as Employer Group Waiver Plans (EGWP). This includes coverage for certain retiree groups such as CalPERS, SDPEBA, Teamsters, San Diego Electrical Health & Welfare Trust and Sharp HealthCare retirees.
